KALA dépeint une figure emblématique du folklore de la Réunion, porteuse du même nom.  Elle est assise et pointe du doigt avec assurance. Sur son épaule repose un papangue, enchaîné à son bras. L'oeuvre propose une relecture de la figure de ce personnage,. une sorcière représentée comme la somme des clichés associés à ce type de personnage (chapeau pointu, nez crochu, etc). 

L'artiste propose une interprétation nuancée et ancrée dans la richesse de l'histoire culturelle de la Réunion. À travers cette oeuvre, l'artiste questionne la manière dont la représentation des éléments culturels peuvent évoluer pour mieux refléter la diversité et la complexité de notre identité collective.

KALA depicts an iconic figure from the folklore of Reunion Island, bearing the same name. She is seated and confidently points her finger. Resting on her shoulder is a papangue, chained to her arm. The artwork offers a reinterpretation of this character, a witch traditionally portrayed as a collection of clichés associated with such figures (pointed hat, hooked nose, etc.).

The artist presents a nuanced interpretation deeply rooted in the cultural history of Reunion Island, and questionning on how the representation of cultural elements can evolve to better reflect the diversity and complexity of our collective identity.
